Wednesday 2 September - Congratulations to Abigail, Hannah, Gregor, Esme, Alex & Kirsten who passed their Bronze level Music Leaders Scotland Award. Thank you for all your contributions to musical activities last session!!! You make us proud.

Tuesday 1 September - I must congratulate all our pupils in the maturity they have shown of late. Yesterday we had Health and Wellbeing meetings with pupils throughout the day, and their attitude and behaviour has been impressive. Our first day of wearing face masks went very well, with nearly all pupils well organised in arriving with a face mask, although we do have spares as and when needed.
Please read the attached letters from Deputy First Minister John Swinney, and from Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director.

Sunday 30 August - Health & Wellbeing
On Friday all pupils were informed that as of Monday 31 August they will be expected to wear a face mask on entering the school and then when walking through the corridors. Extra face masks will be available for any pupil who forgets their own mask.
Should there be a reason that any individual pupil is unable to wear a face mask for health reasons then they should speak to either their Year Head or Miss Brown in the Support Department. Pupils travelling on school buses will also be required to wear a face mask.

Tuesday 25 August - Gryffe High School are once again offering new S1 parents and carers an exciting opportunity to learn more about their child’s new school and be involved in the lessons they will be taught, by the teachers they will be taught by. Health and Safety is obviously our key focus at the moment, so we will follow strict procedures for parents arriving at school, and can also explain all the procedures that we have in place for pupils.

Thursday 20 August - Activ8 - Our weekly Wednesday after school club returned yesterday and runs from 3:00pm - 3:45pm. We offer a reduced programme this session with current restrictions. Activities on offer include drama and various outdoor sporting activities such as fitness, football, hockey, lacrosse, softball and tennis. From Wednesday 26 August we will open up this programme to both S1 and S2 and would encourage any S1/2 pupils to report to the Games Hall at the end of the school day on Wednesday to register and be set up for the session. We will monitor attendance and open to other year groups at a later stage if possible.

Wednesday 19 August - I would like to thank all parents/carers for supporting our return to full time education. The pupils have been an absolute credit to all, and I have been so impressed in how they have adapted to our new procedures and systems. There is an understanding that Health and Safety comes first, and that we compromise in other areas. Please read my update covering: Our return to school; Canteen; PE; Activ8; School Uniform; Health and Safety; SQA Results and Her Majesty's Inspection Report for Gryffe.

Wednesday 19 August - We are delighted to be accredited as a Vision School for Holocaust Education in Scotland – the first school in Renfrewshire to be awarded this accolade. As a Vision School, we are committed to ensuring that learning about and from the Holocaust is an integral part of our young people’s education. Our very positive feedback from Paula Cowan of UWS and Director of the Vision Schools for Scotland programme, included the following:
‘Your school clearly places Citizenship at the heart of the curriculum and helps pupils to learn about the events of the Holocaust through a variety of opportunities.’

Wednesday 12 August - We are REALLY looking forward to welcoming our S1 and S6 pupils back to school this morning. S1 should enter the school via door 7, the Maths/English entrance at the back of the school, and S6 via door 8, Humanities at the side of the school.
We are set up for 'grab and go' lunch bags for those that wish one, otherwise we recommend packed lunches.
With regards to the SQA Awards, in light of the Depute First Minister's announcement yesterday, our new S5 and S6 pupils will receive a letter on return to school, i.e. S6 today, with detail of any changes to their SQA Awards.

Tuesday 11 August - Staff returned to school yesterday, positive and looking forward to pupils phased return, starting with S1 and S6 on Wednesday. Today we have staff meetings, socially distanced, on Wellbeing; Tracking & Monitoring and UCAS; Learning and Teaching. We then focus on the final detail for the safe return of our pupils.
You may be interested in today's publication from the Education Scotland Inspector's visit, February 2020. To say I am proud of our pupils and staff is a complete understatement. To be the head teacher of a school where the pupils, day in day out, impress with their enthusiasm, drive and persistence is an absolute pleasure and privilege. I eagerly await the return of our pupils to school this week, and then supporting them as they pick up where we left off – supporting the wellbeing of all, striving for improvement, and keeping their focus as ambitious, but caring, young people with high aspirations - Mr Johnson

Monday 3 August - All our Senior Phase pupils, including last year's S6 pupils, will receive their SQA Results tomorrow, Tuesday 4 August. Within Gryffe we continue to prepare for the return of pupils and staff. As you would expect we will have the school fully cleaned and all appropriate safety measures in place. We have also, with the support of Renfrewshire Council, just up upgraded our computer infrastructure to Windows 10, and have installed over 120 new computers to replace ones which were struggling to cope. Next Friday I will provide a further update, as well as more detail on what we have worked on and hopefully a detailed timeline for August – Mr Johnson.

Friday 26 June - The last day of term and what a strange day it is with no pupils in sight. I cannot praise the pupils, and staff, highly enough for how they have coped over the past few months, and I thank parents/carers of all your support. We look forward to August, and are excited at the thought of all pupils being back in school with all appropriate health and safety measures in place.
I received a poem from one of our S6 pupils, Esme James, and I feel this is the appropriate final message of term, and sums up recent times.

Friday 12 June - We are delighted to announce our School Captains for session 2020/2021 - Rachael Bell and Calum Robertson.

Earlier today we had 24 S6 pupils, socially distanced, in our school theatre as we announced the leadership positions for session 2020/2021. We will give more detail on this next week, however I cannot express how good a feeling it was to be talking to some of our pupils, in school, and discussing how we will make a difference in the session to come - this is the first steps on the way back to a 'norm', where we look forward to getting our pupils back into school.

Our new Pupil Management Team have already taken on and organised two tasks:
- Every day from Monday 15 June, from 10:00 - 11:00 am, pupils in our Pupil Management Team will be available, from the outside door leading into the S6 social area/canteen, to issue jotters, paper, pens, pencils, allocated course work.....etc. We would ask that if any pupil needs any additional resources then please go there to pick up whatever is required.
- Rachael and Calum have also created a rota where pupils in the Pupil Management Team will support our P7 Visits on Thursday 18, Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 June. We are providing the opportunity for our soon to be S1 pupils to visit the school in small groups, by House Groups, and we will provide an in school induction on top of our extensive online transition programme which has been running every school day since Monday 1 June.

Thursday 11 June - Sally Campbell (S4) is in the U16 Scotland basketball squad. She represented Scotland at a tri-nations competition in Manchester at Christmas. She should have been representing her country in both Copenhagen and Gibraltar this summer however due to Covid19 this has been cancelled.

To represent the country at such a young age is a fantastic achievement⭐ We are looking forward to a time when sporting fixtures can go ahead again and hearing how Sally (#14 in the picture) gets on in future competitions🏀

Thursday 11 June - Leo Downes (new S4) had been all set to take part in the Trampoline and Tumbling NDP Individual & Regional Team Finals last weekend. This would have been held at the Arena Birmingham.
The event was cancelled due to the current situation, but that did not stop the competition going ahead and Leo was still able to compete from a distance as the event took place online.
Leo performed very well and came 1st in DMT (Double Mini Trampoline) and 6th in Trampolining. Leo was also one of the highest scoring gymnasts. Well done Leo! Another amazing achievement!

Your most-asked questions were put to Steven Quinn, Director of Children’s Services, which you can see at   http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/coronavirus-schools
You can also find answers to many more questions there too. Thank you for your continued patience and support for our school/nursery during this difficult time.

Tuesday 26 May - Something a little different ..... Have a listen to 2 soundtracks written and performed by our very own singer/songwriter Sasha Kaloheris. Sasha is in (new) S5 and she was our Young Musician of the Year (Intermediate Category) in 2019. Sasha has taken part in many concerts and school shows throughout her years in Gryffe High. Sasha was due to perform at 'Gig in the Goil' this year as well as several other music festivals. With this not working to plan due to the current circumstances, Sasha has maximised her time by working on more original material and recordings. Well done Sasha!

Thursday 21 May – Please take a little time to watch our video, which shows a few of our pupils achievements over the past session. When watching we would suggest you click on full screen to see the video clip in its full splendour -         https://youtu.be/KkuxvvwdeOw
We've enjoyed hearing about your child's fantastic achievements from home. We know there will be a range of different ways in which they will be demonstrating our key values of Caring, Learning and Achieving. During this period of home learning we would like you to continue to support our achievements programme by letting us know via an achievement nomination form about your child's successes. Completion of the form wins your child 10 house points.

Friday 1 May - Head Teacher's update for all pupils and parents/carers.
Following the unprecedented times in March and April, we remain hopeful that the month of May will bring a little hope, and some happiness and stability back to life. We are all learning new ways to cope, however we are also reminding ourselves of how important we are to each other - even when having 'little fall outs'!. Take care.

Friday 24 April - Head Teacher's update for new S5 and new S6 pupils and parents/carers. We appreciate these surreal times, and as such routines and normality can be so important. We now focus on our preparations for our new session, and that entails new S5 and new S6 pupils starting our work now.
I would also ask all new S5 and new S6 pupils to show the lead as we move forward, and demonstrate your CARING and consideration for others - what are you doing that is genuinely helping others?
I am sure there are lots of examples, of which I have read about a few on Facebook, so please go that extra mile.

Friday 24 April - Head Teacher's update for S1, S2 and S3 pupils and parents/carers.
We have now had one week back after a strange 'Spring Break', but hopefully we are back into routines of school work..... and dare I say being helpful at home. As much as our school work is important, we all must remember that we are in difficult times, and that extra bit of CARING and consideration for others goes a long way.

Friday 17 April - I hope this first update, following the Spring Break, finds all pupils, parents/carers and wider families well. We remain in unprecedented times and have had a Spring Break like never before, however we must look ahead and plan for the time when we can get back to the 'norm' of a school life.  I hope all our families remain safe and sound, and look forward to fully embracing and enjoying the joys and experiences, and normality, that school life can bring.

Friday 3 April - A letter for Parents/Carers from Mr Steven Quinn, Director of Children's Services, regarding SQA Awards.
I am confident we have moved forward in Gryffe, as always, in supporting our pupils to the very best of our ability and we will continue to do so. Please take care over the Spring break, be safe and keep healthy in body and mind.
